LDS Family History Consultant To Speak To Genealogical Society

LIBERTY, January 10, 2013 - Laurie Jensen, LDS Family History Consultant, will be the guest speaker at the Tuesday, January 15th meeting of the Liberty County Genealogical Society.  The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the DAR Meeting Room behind the Cleveland-Partlow House on Grand Avenue.  Mrs. Jensen, a former employee of the acquisitions and filed operations unit of the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is fluent in Spanish and has a special interest and expertise in Mexican civil and parish records.  She is also currently an adult basic education and English as a second language teacher.  Her program will unlock the mysteries of the “Familysearch.org” website for genealogists.  The familysearch website contains the digitized images of its growing collection of over 2.4 million rolls of microfilmed genealogical records; 727,000 microfiche; 356,000 books, serials, and other formats; over 4,500 periodicals and 3,725 electronic resources housed in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Records available in this collection are from the United States, Canada, the British Isles, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa.  A majority of the records contain information about persons who lived before 1930.  The LDS library is the largest genealogical library in the world and was founded in 1894 and is open to the public at no charge.   Members will learn how to search, access the browsed images, and utilize the many resources contained in this library and available on this amazing free site on their home computers.
