Libertad Honors Sandra Sterling With Award LIBERTY, January 25, 2012 - Libertad Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution honored Sandra S. Sterling with a Community Service Award on Thursday, January 19th, 2012. The NSDAR established this award in 1995 as way chapters can recognize worthy residents from a variety of walks of life for unpaid voluntary achievements in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, historical and citizenship endeavors, or in environmental conservation. The recipient must have contributed to the community in an outstanding manner for voluntary heroic, civic, or benevolent service or organized or participated in community activities. The recommendation must come from a local chapter, reviewed by the state chairman, national vice chairman of that state’s division and then forwarded to the national chairman for approval.

Sandra Sterling was recommended by Libertad Chapter for this award because she has given so generously of her time, talents, energy and resources to make a difference in the lives of people, young and old, in our community and surrounding area. The chapter recommendation was accompanied by letters from The Reverend Ted Smith, Rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Liberty; Jackie Hartel, President of The Valley Players; Cynthia Lusignolo, Superintendent of Liberty Independent School District and Vicki Shimer, Community Manger of Development for the American Cancer Society, each praising Mrs. Sterling for her many contributions in her community and her unselfish volunteerism. Sandra Sterling also has been actively involved in the Chamber of Commerce, annual City of Liberty July 4th celebrations, YMCA, Trinity Valley Exposition, Liberty Garden Club and Liberty Woman’s Club, volunteering wherever she is needed. She and her husband, James B. Sterling fund two scholarships each year, one at Texas A&M Maritime School, Galveston, Texas and one to a graduating high school student attending Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas as a member of the Corp of Cadets. Libertad Chapter, NSDAR presented Mrs. Sterling with a Community Service Award pin and certificate in appreciation of her outstanding community service.
