Lighting Strikes Oil Tank in Hardin HARDIN, January 24, 2012 – Around 2:00 PM on Tuesday afternoon lightening struck an oil tank at the Kelly Oil Company well in the Hardin Oil Field.
According to Liberty County Fire Marshall Jim Wilson when fire fighters arrived the tank had ignited and flames were coming from the trap door on a tank containing oil.
Fire Fighters put out the fire as a flare burn on top of the tank to burn off excess gas in the tank. Fire Fighters from Hardin, Liberty and Hull-Daisetta responded to the fire. Once the fire was out Fire Fighters continued to spray large quantities of was on the tank to reduce it’s temperature and keep it cool in order to keep it from reigniting.
