Watch Out for Auto Burglaries

DAYTON, January 10, 2012 - On Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning there were some nighttime car burglaries which occurred in the Colonial Oaks, Woodland Hills, West Woodland Hills and Winter Valley. In this series of crimes, the suspect(s) looked for open doors on cars/trucks at night, opening Christmas gifts which had been placed into these vehicles for Christmas morning. Most of the items stolen were gift cards for restaurants or Visa / Master Card gift cards.

According to Sheriff’s Office Investigators, the suspect(s) are continuing to commit these crimes and remove any small items which are easy to carry or run away with. Again, these suspect(s) are operating under the cover of darkness, opening unlocked car/truck doors.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is issuing this warning to area residents and advising people to make sure you lock your car doors and windows. Should you have an auto alarm, remember to activate the alarm, especially at night. Additionally, if you have outside lighting available on your property, try to leave those lights on, especially illuminating your motor vehicles.

Should you see anything or anyone suspicious or have any information about these crimes please contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 336-4500 or (www.libertytxsheriff.com).
