Teenager Killed in Auto Train Collision

AMES, January 13, 2012 - Friday afternoon at 3:42 PM an auto train fatality accident occurred on FM 1909 near the intersection of US 90 east of Ames.

According to reports a 2004 Ford Sport Trac traveling north on FM 1909 disregarded the railroad warning lights and crossing arms pulled into the path of a Union Pacific train where it was struck.

The driver of the Ford Sport Trac was John Allison age 20 of Liberty who was transported from the scene by Life Flight to Houston Hermann Memorial Hospital. According to reports he is in critical condition having suffered head and internal injuries.

Killed in the accident was Allison’s passenger William James Hotaling age 16 of Liberty.

Justice of the Peace Bobby Rader pronounced Hotaling dead at the scene at 4:40 PM Friday.

According to reports both driver and passenger were wearing seat belts.
