Restricted Access to Portions of McFaddin Refuge HIGH ISLAND, January 3, 2012 - Access to McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge), in areas that lay west of Clam Lake Road (see map), will be closed to the public due to a wildfire that broke out on the Refuge Monday, January 2, 2012. Firefighters from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are working to contain the fire, but public access to the Refuge, west of Clam Lake Road, is considered extremely dangerous.
This access restriction includes waterfowl hunt areas, fishing areas, and beach access areas that lay west of Clam Lake Road on the Refuge. The public is reminded that wildfire conditions could be very dangerous. To keep communities safe from wildfires, do not build campfires or burn trash/debris piles; do not use fireworks; and properly dispose of cigarettes.
