| Wildlife Refuge Facilities Dedicated LIBERTY, January 4, 2012 - Today a standing room only crowd gathered at the site of the new offices and maintenance buildings of the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge on FM 1008 across from the Sam Houston Library and Research Center to dedicate the new facilities.
VFW Post 5621 presented the colors at the beginning of the event and the Liberty High School Choir sang the National Athem.
Stuart Marcus, Refuge Manager as well as David Knutson, President Friends of the Trinity River Refuge, Carl Pickett, Mayor of Liberty and Houston Daniel Lawyer and Preservationist spoke during the ceremony. Click on photo above to view larger image The Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge was established on January 4, 1994 with an initial purchase of 4,400 acres. Since that time, the Refuge has acquired additional acreage that now totals 25,000 acres. The primary purpose of establishing this refuge is to protect a portion of the Trinity River bottomland hardwood forest ecosystem. Following the ceremonies and there was a joint ribbon cutting sponsored by the Liberty Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Dayton Chamber of Commerce.
