SO Investigates Attempted Abduction

TARKINGTON, January 13, 2010 - According to Public Information Officer Steve Green with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the department is investigating the attempted abduction of two children who were walking home form a basketball game at the Tarkington Middle School on Tuesday evening, January 12, 2010.

According to Green, the suspect in this attempted abduction is described as a white male, with a bald head, driving a white four door sedan.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and the Sheriff’s Department has increased patrols in the area.

Today the following letter sent to parents from Tarkington Superintendent of Schools, John Kirchner was received.

Dear Parents,

Your children’s safety is our greatest priority! I do not wish to alarm or distress you; however, we do believe it important that we pass on any information which could prevent any harm to your children. This morning I was informed by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department that they are investigating a possible attempted abduction of two children. The children involved are ok. The alleged offense took place Tuesday evening while two students were walking home after attending a basketball game at the Middle School. Due to the sketchy details, there is little I can pass on to you at this time. I just ask you to take appropriate precautions. We will inform our staff of the situation as well and take whatever action is necessary. As you may have noticed while visiting the campuses, improvements have been made to improve the security of our buildings. If we receive any concrete information which can be passed on we will.

John Kirchner
Superintendent Tarkington ISD
