Harry Kelley Indicted on New Criminal Charges

BEAUMONT, September 16, 2010 - Previously Liberty County Sheriff’s Department Captain, Harry Kelley was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury in Beaumont for his alleged criminal activity in the theft of hundreds of firearms from the Cleveland Police Department as well as over 100,000 rounds of ammunition belonging to the department.

At the time Harry Kelley worked for the Cleveland Police Department, Henry Patterson was his direct supervisor and it was Patterson who brought Kelley to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department.

The new, Superseding Indictment of Kelley now alleges that Kelley’s criminal activity continued while he worked for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department.

This illegal activity involved the purchase and sale to an individual Laser Gun Sights, that are restricted and for the use of Law Enforcement Agencies and the Government.

Kelley, to obtain the sights, signed documents stating that the gun sights were for the use of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department and were delivered to the Sheriff’s Department by UPS. Kelley then transferred the Gun Sights to his accomplice, a gun shop owner, Gary Lee.

The new indictment now alleges that Kelley’s criminal activity continued long after he left Cleveland and was employed by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Henry Patterson.
