I Can Text Now EDITORIAL

LIBERTY, March 31, 2010 – If you are like me you have a cell phone largely out of necessity and you do little with it other than place and receive phone calls. I’ve had dozens of phones over the years. In fact every time the wind changes direction or I go to the cell phone store the people at the company I’ve done cell phone business with for years insist on giving me a new phone. Just look at how many different cell phones at any of these cell phone stores and it boggles the mind.

When text messaging became available it really took off with some people. I thought that would be useful but I could never get the hang of entering alphabetic characters on a numeric keypad. It was just such a hassle I was never interested in going through the learning curve it required in order to become proficient and skilled at texting anything and therefore I didn’t text.

My world changed yesterday when I finally got a cell phone that works the way a cell phone should actually work. I got an iPhone.

It is simple and intuitive which is its true genius. To my surprise when I decided I wanted to text someone I just hit the button and the necessary steps were both easy and obvious. No learning curve. You want to send a text message. Just pickup the phone, hit the button and text. It’s that simple. But that simplicity is only the beginning of this phone’s utility.

With a minimum of set up all of my e-mails came streaming in including those with attachments. You can not only view and respond to all you e-mails rather than waiting to get them when you return to the office, you view the attachments such as PDF's and other things people send.

Another thing that make this phone great is its fully functional web browser. Anything you can do on your home computer in your web browser you can do with the Safari web browser on your phone.

You can go to i-dineout.com on your phone, click on the Thriftee Foods Button on the main page and instantly view this week’s sales paper to organize your grocery shopping anywhere at anytime.

You can click on the buttons for FLNB or Hull State Bank on the iPhone and transfer money between accounts whenever you need to just like you can do on your home computer.

There is multitude of applications (Apps) for the iPhone. One I really like is the Maps application. You need directions the iPhone provides them with ease.

Of the many cell phones I’ve had since 1994 when I got my first phone, this is the only truly useful phone I’ve ever had that works like all phones should actually work.
