Hurricane Victim Identified

ANAHUAC, January 4, 2010 - Over a year since Hurricane Ike people in our area still feels its effects. Such is the case of a hurricane victim how has been recently identified.

Sheriff Joe LaRive announced today that, Skeletal remains, which were located and recovered in southern Chambers County on September 8, 2009, have been positively identified as Harry E. Bingham Jr.. Mr. Bingham, who resided on the Bolivar Peninsula in Galveston County, Texas, had been listed as missing since Hurricane Ike roared ashore in mid September, 2008.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office submitted a sample of the recovered remains to the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, Texas, after the recovery. DNA was extracted from those remains, which were compared to a DNA sample of Bingham’s daughter, which had been submitted by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. As a result of those tests and comparisons, forensic analysts in Fort Worth were able to make a positive identification.

Mr. Bingham’s family has been notified. Chambers County Sheriff Joe LaRive offered his condolences to the family.
