Highlights of Election Night

LIBERTY, March 3, 2010 – In the Democratic Primary Bill White was the overwhelming favorite among voters garnering 88.8% of Democratic voters in the Governors race.

Incumbent County Judge, Phil Fitzgerald lost to Democratic newcomer Ken Morrison. Morrison garnered 59.6% of the voters in this race compared to Fitzgerald’s 40.4%.

In the race for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 5 Joe McAnally beat Linda Chapman. McAnally got 72.8% of the vote compared to Chapman’s 27.2%.

The Democratic candidate for Constable Pct. 2 Unexpired term will be Les Hulsey who received 64.2% of the vote to Juan Alfaro’s 35.8%.

In the Republican Primary incumbent Kevin Brady easily beat out three challengers receiving 72.9% of the vote.

The choice of Liberty County voters for Governor was Rick Perry over Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Debra Medina. Perry received 58.3% of the vote.

Incumbent 253rd District Court Judge Chap Cain easily outpaced Michelle Mangum-Merendino garnering 67.1% of the vote. He received similar support from Chambers County Voters as well.

In the race for County Judge in the Republican Primary there will be a run off election between Dayton Mayor Steve Stephens and Craig McNair. Stephens received 41.8% of the vote, McNair 29.9% and Jay Knight finished last with 28.3%.

It appears that Charlotte Key Warner will be in a run off having received only 49.7% of the vote. Marcus Brand came in second with 27.3% and Timothy Wells came in last with 2.0% of the vote.

It also appears the Larry Wilburn will be in a run off election with Barry Graves for Justice of the Peace Pct. 4. Wilburn had 41.8% of the vote, Graves 29.3% and Headrick 28.9%.

Perhaps the closest race on the election night was the race for Liberty County Republican Party Chairman.
