Building Fire in Liberty

LIBERTY, January 21, 2010 - The City of Liberty Fire Department was dispatched to the 2100 Block of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Liberty for a structure fire on Thursday afternoon.

The building suffering damage to fire belonged to Charles Fisher of Liberty and housed historical artifacts and antiques.

Firefighters searched and located the source of smoke coming from the building on the interior and the exterior south side of the structure.

The building is located adjacent to the officer of Tri-County MHMR just to the east of the building’s location.

Fire Chief Fred Collins of the Liberty Fire Department stated that the cause of the fire was careless use of smoking material on the outside of the building. Apparently spent cigarette butts were found on the windowsill where the fire originated and got into the south wall.

The building suffered minor damage.
