Attempted Abduction in Daisetta

DAISETTA, March 2, 2010 - Last Thursday, at approximately 7:35 pm, Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the City of Daisetta to investigate a possible attempted abduction of a 9 year old girl according to Liberty County Constable Les Hulsey.

Units responding to the scene contacted the Pct 2 Constable's Office and advised them of the incident, along with a general description of the suspect, a W/M, in his late 20's. The two Pct 2 units combed the area around the H-D High School looking for the suspect, while a Daisetta PD unit went to the meet with the victim to gather more information and a more detailed suspect description.

The Daisetta unit broadcasted a detailed suspect description and last location of suspect. Constable Les Hulsey apprehended a male subject who had tried to evade him, at Pecan and FM 770, near the high school. The male fit the description and after interviewing the suspect it was determined that from information obtained from the victim by Sheriff's deputies Pierce and Ewing, this was the suspect involved.

The young girl had been playing with 2 other juvenile girls at the high school track when they were approached by the male, who tripped the young girl knocking her to the ground and dragged her by her pants legs a short distance. the female juvenile, upset over the incident, pulled her pants back up and started to run. The male attempted to stop her and told her he would take her home. She ran to her home and told her parents who notified the Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Chris Ungles, set up a "show up" identification of the suspect by the Juvenile, the suspect was positively identified as the suspect.

The suspect was identified by authorities as Jason Perkins, a white male, 29 years of age, with a Liberty, Texas address.

Deputy Ewing took a recorded statement from the female juvenile and after reviewing the elements of the crime, he charged the suspect with unlawful restraint, a Sate Jail Felony. Judge Bobby Rader set a $10,000.00 bond on the suspect.

Due to the fast action of the juvenile victim, the Sheriff's Deputies responding in force to the incident, and quick response by Constable Les Hulsey and his Deputy, we feel a more serious crime was averted, had the abduction been successful, or even worse the suspect go un-captured to claim more victims.

At approximately 8:30 pm the H-D High School principal, Quinn Godwin, was contacted by the Constable and notified of the event. Additionally, on Friday morning Constable Les Hulsey contacted the principal at the H-D Elementary School, Kelly Berry, and notified her of the events.
