Major Accident US 90 at Alabama Street

LIBERTY, April 2, 2010 - A major accident occurred on US 90 at Alabama Street just after 1:00 PM Friday afternoon that sent the driver of a Red Dodge Pickup to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center by City of Liberty Ambulance.

According to investigating Officer Jeanne Marie Euwing of the City of Liberty Police Department the Red Pickup was traveling east on US 90 when it slowed down to move into the left turn lane to make a left turn onto Alabama Street.

A Blue Nissan Titan Pickup also traveling east on US 90 struck the Red Dodge in the rear.

The City of Liberty Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to free the driver of the Red Dodge Pickup, Zanny Stroughter of Dayton from the wreckage of her vehicle.

The westbound lanes of US 90 were closed to traffic while this accident was cleared from the roadway and traffic was detoured south on Alabama Street to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

The driver of the Nissan Pickup, Giavanni Cormier age 48 of Dayton refused treatment.

Stroughter was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to Officer Euwing all parties to the accident were insured and any citations in this accident are pending further investigation by the department.
