Crash on FM 563 Liberty

LIBERTY, July 3, 2010 - The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a major accident on FM 563 just south of CR 133N at 6:31 PM on Saturday afternoon.

Liberty County EMS and the Hull Daisetta Volunteer Fire Department were summoned to the scene to assist the driver of a white Ford pickup that had been ejected from her vehicle and was lying in a culvert.

According to DPS Trooper Corey Davis who investigated the accident, the pickup was traveling south on FM 563 when it ran off the roadway to the right in a curve. The vehicle overcorrected, crossed the northbound lanes and went into the ditch on the east side of the roadway where it collided with a tree.

The collision destroyed the pickup and the driver of the pickup identified as Victoria Whiddon age 20 of Daisetta was seriously injured. According to Trooper Davis, Whiddon was not wearing a seat belt.

Life Flight landed in a nearby field and transported the driver to Houston’s Hermann Hospital for treatment.

According to Trooper Davis, in addition to unsafe speed, alcohol will be an additional factor as the focus of the continuing investigation into this accident.
