Major Accident on SH 321, Dayton

DAYTON, August 18, 2010 - At around 12:15 PM on Wednesday an 18-wheeler collided with a Ford Pickup on SH 321 just north of the prison in Dayton.

The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department and Hwy 321 Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene to establish a landing zone for Life Flight, manage traffic control and employee the jaws of life to remove the roof of the pickup and rescue the driver.

DPS Trooper Ray Sanders conducted the investigation into the cause of the accident and told i-dineout.com that the 18-wheeler was following the pickup southbound on SH 321 when the pickup attempted to execute a left turn into a private drive where today they were holding a tool sale.

Liberty County EMS transported two passengers in the pickup to Cleveland Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries. The passengers were Phillip Tucker and Chase Tucker ages 40 and 18.

The driver of the pickup was Paul Wayne Tucker age 44 who was flown by Life Flight to Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment from the landing zone just north of the accident location.

The 18-wheeler had identifying markings indicating that it was operated by E L Farmer of Odessa, Tx. The driver of the 18-wheeler was Juan Antonio Guzman age 47 of Mount Pleasant, TX.

SH 321 was closed for a considerable time while this accident was cleaned up and the wreckage of the vehicles was removed from the roadway.

According to Trooper Sanders any citations are a matter of the continued investigation into the cause of this accident.
