Train Crashes into 18-Wheeler

DAYTON, July 28, 2010 - The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a collision between an 18-wheeler and a train near the intersection of FM 686 and the railroad tracks at 6:54 PM in far west Liberty County.

 

The Union Pacific train was traveling north on the tracks and struck the 18-wheeler at the crossing on CR 622.

According to Trooper Chris Cash the 18-wheeler was severed from its’ trailer and the truck was pushed a considerable distance along the tracks to a location near FM 686.

The 18-wheeler was being used to transport railroad ties.

The Dayton and Hwy 321 Volunteer Fire Departments was dispatched to the scene.

The 18-wheeler caught fire and burned damaging the front of the locomotive.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was killed in the accident and was found near the front of the locomotive having suffered burns in the accident.

The train engineer was not injured in the crash.

The name of the driver was not yet released at this early stage in the investigation.
