Major Vehicle Train Collision in Dayton DAYTON, November 22, 2010 - Early Monday evening a major accident occurred on North Winfree Street in Dayton involving a train crossing North Winfree Street and a pickup truck pulling a low boy trailer.
According Officer Robby Thornton with the Dayton Police Department the truck pulling the trailer was traveling northbound on Winfree attempting to cross the railroad tracks when it stalled on the tracks.
The pickup had three occupants, two men and a woman. They attempted to push the truck back south on Winfree off the railroad tracks. Then suddenly, the crossing arms came down and they could not move the truck.
As the westbound train approached, they all tried to flee from the inevitable crash. The male and female passenger managed to get out of the way before the collision. The male driver identified as Greg Oines, in his mid-fifties was struck by the truck when the train collided with it.
Liberty County EMS responded to the scene and transported Oines to a landing zone for Life Flight behind the Brookshire Brothers Store. He was taken by helicopter to Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment of the injuries he sustained in the crash. The passengers were identified as Robert Lloyd and Linda Cameron. Both passengers and the driver were all from Kenefick.
