Spencer Templeton Faces Long Recovery

HOUSTON, August 17, 2010 - Spencer Templeton faces a long recovery at the hospital. Spencer is the Cleveland Police Officer that was critically injured when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle on his way to work last week. There have been and will be a lot of bumps in the road during his recovery from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Spencer’s wife, Rockie, wrote to i-dineout.com and shares the following about Spencer’s condition.

On 8-10-2010, Spencer finally started waking up and the vent was weened down to cpap and then back on the vent tuesday nite to rest.

On 08-11-2010, He passed all of the test to have the breathing tube taken out. Later Wednesday, they decided to take it out. When they did, his airway collapsed. Spencer lost his blood pressure, had no pulse and was not breathing. CPR was initiated. On the third interval his heart started beating again. He was re-intabated and sedated.

08-12-2010, He was taken to O.R. to put in trach. Before they started, Spencer's vitals all bottomed out.

08-13-2010 The trauma team decided to paralyze him with meds in order for him to get maximum rest til re-attempt on Monday.

08-14-2010 he had a pulmonary embolism from blot clot in his leg.

08-15-2010, while still paralyzed, Spencer's vitals bottomed out again. He had to be bagged until he could stablize, but his heart did NOT stop. On Monday,

08-16-2010, Spencer was taken back to O.R. for the trach. They had some difficulties with his vitals so they bagged him thru the entire proceedure. And the trach was successful! The filter was put in place to catch the clots and his lungs were cleaned out from alot of the mucus (caused by the extended stay on the vent)
