Keeping Up with Technology

LIBERTY, April 24, 2010 – Mobile Computing Devices are going to become a larger part of our lives and the adoption of such technologies will happen at an ever faster pace than is already occurring.

Having only experienced i-dineout.com on desktop and notebook computers we were not familiar with the site experience of viewers who using mobile computing devices to view our site until recently.

The Apple iPhone is the leading mobile computing device on the market today and consumers have purchased millions. Now with the introduction of the iPad that will change the way people experience the Internet, we thought it was a good time to test our site on these devices and determine if changes needed to be made to provide a pleasant viewing experience for our audience members who use such mobile computing devices.

The good news is that our news stories are published in frames on our pages that are between 400 and 500 pixels wide. This width displays beautifully on the iPhone.

We did find one problem with the videos that i-dineout.com produces. We were using a service to provide video called blip.tv. Those videos were not playing on the iPhone due to the fact that Flash by Adobe, is not compatible with the iPhone.

After discussion with Adobe and Apple we learned there would most likely be no fix for this problem. So we reformatted the videos in the blip. TV player so that they now can be enjoyed by people utilizing mobile computing devices to view our site. They now display beautifully on the iPhone and are pleasure to enjoy on such devices.

So set back and enjoy our mobile computing world. There is much yet to come.
