Federal Grand Jury Issues Summons

LIBERTY, August 24, 2010 - Liberty County Commissioner Melvin Hunt confirmed that he, Commissioner Norman Brown, Commissioner Todd Fontenot and County Judge Secretary Lisa Fregia were served with summons to appear before a Federal Grand Jury in Beaumont, TX on September 15, 2010.

It is assumed that the Grand Jury is investigating allegations concerning County Judge Phil Fitzgerald and his handling and subsequent profiting from the Hurricane Ike disaster clean up in Liberty County.

All the parties mentioned were served just before the start of the Commissioners Court Meeting on Tuesday morning at the Liberty County Courthouse.

Additionally i-dineout.com was told unofficially that Technology Director for the County, John Gaudet was also served with a Federal Grand Jury Summons. When we spoke to Gaudet by phone he stated that, "I can not confirm or deny that I was served," citing Courthouse policy.
