Speed Limits on FM 3180 to Change

MONT BELVIEU, November 9, 2010 - Motorists traveling FM 3180 will need to watch their speed a bit more closely. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says speed limits on sections of the highway are about to be lowered. TxDOT says traffic from new housing developments, schools and industry has contributed to lowering the speed limit.

Beginning November 23, the speed limits on two portions of FM 3180 will be lowered including:

· Eagle Drive to south of the I-10 overpass. Speed limit will be reduced 50 mph. (Currently 60 mph)
· South of the overpass to FM 565. Speed limit will be reduced to 60 mph. (Currently 65 mph)

The change comes at the request of the Texas Department of Safety. Speed and traffic studies conducted by TxDOT justify the change. The City of Mont Belvieu recently passed a city ordinance for the speed reduction which was later approved by the Texas Transportation Commission.
