Child Safety Seat Checkup

LIBERTY, September 16, 2010 - The Liberty Police Department will host a Child Safety Seat Checkup on Friday, September 24, 2010. The free event will be at the Wal-Mart parking lot, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. The event coincides with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Child Passenger Safety Week, which is September 19-25.

Sgt. Tony Stines is a certified child safety seat technician. He can assure your child’s seat is appropriate for your child’s age and size. He will also check for proper installation and fit. He will have educational materials for parents and caregivers. He will also have a limited number of free car seats available for parents that cannot afford one. If the supply of free seats runs out, more will be ordered.

Securing children properly in age-appropriate and size-appropriate child safety seats, in the back of your vehicle, is the most effective thing you can do to protect them in the event of a crash.

So take care of your most precious passengers (and future drivers!). Stop by LPD’s free Child Safety Seat Checkup, Friday September 24th. If you can’t attend the free event, you can still contact Sgt. Stines at 936-336-5666 for an appointment to have your child’s seat inspected at the PD.
