Arrest Made in Animal Cruelty Case

LIBERTY, September 14, 2010 - Officer Hugh Bishop of the City of Liberty Police Department told i-dineout.com that the department has made an arrest in the case of the dog that was thrown off the Trinity River Bridge on US90 in Liberty.

Officers arrested Shane Rushing age 43 of the Pecan Wood Trailer Park in Dayton with the assistance of the Dayton Police Department.

Investigator Chip Fairchild and Officer Barbie Miller investigated the case for the department.

Rushing was charged with Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals a Class A Misdemeanor and Judge Bobby Rader issued a warrant for his arrest.

Bishop stated that Rushing is cooperating with authorities and told Investigators that the dog belonged to him.

Rushing has previous criminal convictions in Texas for Aggrevated Theft Class A in 1990 and Indecency with a Child a 3rd Degree Felony in 1999.

Animal Control Officer, Tammy Bishop of the City of Liberty Police Department took the dog to the veterinarian today. According to the veterinarian, the dog is a great Pyrenees mix and is about six months to a year old.

Tammy Bishop reports that there have been about 70 calls from people who want to adopt the dog.
