Major Accident on FM 1409 at CR 444

WESTLAKE, April 8, 2010 - The Westlake Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene of a major accident on FM 1409 at CR 444 around 9:45 PM on Thursday evening.

According to investigating DPS Trooper Ray Sanders the Dodge Dakota pickup, traveling south on FM 1409 failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway colliding with a tree with the front right portion of the vehicle causing extensive damage.

The Westlake Volunteer Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, William Roland age 46 of Baytown, from the wreckage of his vehicle.

Roland was transported by Liberty County EMS to the helipad at the Westlake Fire Station where he was transferred to the care of Life Flight and flown to Houston’s Hermann Hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained in the accident.

According to Trooper Sanders speed and the possibility of alcohol were the contributing factors that will be the focus of his continuing investigation into the cause of this accident.

Any citations or charges in the accident are a matter of continuing investigation.
