Cleveland Police Officer Nabs Bank Robber

CLEVELAND, August 25, 2010 - Sunday evening, August 22, 2010, a male subject entered into the Wood Forest Bank inside the Cleveland Wal-Mart gave a teller a handwritten note threatening death and demanding money.

Suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a newer model maroon 4 door Dodge dully with chrome wheels and chrome running boards with an unknown male or female passenger.

The following day, a robber matching the description and driving a vehicle as in the Cleveland robbery hit the First Convenience Bank inside the Humble Kroger store.

On Tuesday, August 24, 2010, while Cleveland and Humble Police Detectives together with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were conducting the robbery investigations, a watchful Cleveland police officer Paul Young spotted a Dodge truck matching the description of the suspect vehicle used in the bank robberies travelling southbound on Washington Street headed out of Cleveland.

Officer Young followed the vehicle to the Shell station just south of the city limits and one of the occupants fled on foot and the other ran into the store. Officer Young apprehended both suspects with the assistance of Deputy Aguilar with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect that ran into the Shell station was identified as Douglas James Millican of New Caney. Millican was arrested and will be charged with robbery in the Cleveland bank robbery. Humble Police Detective Duke Caruthers will be referring robbery charges to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and Special Agent Masington with the FBI Beaumont Office will seek (2) two counts of bank robbery.

Cleveland Police Chief Mark Bradshaw commended the actions of Officer Young and the cooperative efforts of all agencies involved. Bradshaw also remarked how ironic it was for one of Cleveland’s police officers assist in a major crime with his former agency. (Humble Police Department)
