Sam Houston Regional Library & Research Center Changes Hours, Procedures LIBERTY, October 8, 2010 - The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is making some changes at its Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty, including offering free guided tours by appointment and new hours. Starting Nov. 1, the center will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be closed Sundays and Mondays. Also starting Nov. 1, tour reservations may be made two weeks in advance by calling (936) 336-8821. The center's museum will remain open for unscheduled visits and self-guided tours without two-week advance reservations during regular operating hours. All visitors, including photographers, will need to register in the center lobby before venturing elsewhere on the premises. This change takes effect immediately. The center also is announcing a temporary interruption to its policy of accepting material and artifact donations. While undergoing a reorganization and inventory of its holdings, it will be unable to accept any new items. This policy will remain in effect until further notice. Staff members will continue to serve patrons' research needs in person or by telephone, e-mail or regular mail. "These changes will enable staff to address preservation needs of the collections, make improvements to public spaces including the research and community meeting rooms and better serve our visitors," said center interim director Darlene Mott. The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center, part of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission's Archives and Information Services Division, is located three miles north of Liberty on FM 1011, off State Highway 146. Admission is free. For more information, call (936) 336-8821 or visit our website at www.tsl.state.tx.us/shc/index.html.
