A Reporter's Day

BEAUMONT, August 5, 2010 - Today was a remarkable day that took this reporter to Beaumont, Texas to attend a press conference held by the US Attorney’s Office.

I have very little reason to ever go to Beaumont and haven’t been there in years.

I decided to go early for the afternoon news conference so that I could have a nice lunch before things got started.

When I got into Beaumont’s downtown business district I was pleasantly surprised by major street reconstruction with sidewalk rehabilitations and landscaping. It seemed to be going on everywhere I looked. In fact some sections of Calder Street were closed for the construction.

Things are certainly looking up for Beaumont.

Having to detour off of Calder Street, I found myself in the historic district of Beaumont with large, beautiful and graceful mansions that were truly inspiring.

Then I found a great place for lunch, the Spindletop in a new mixed-use development downtown near the US Attorney’s Office and the Federal Courthouse.

I enjoyed boneless, smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans with slivered almonds & fresh herbs and a variety of mixed fruit. It was really something to be enjoyed.

After lunch, I traveled only a few blocks to the US Attorney’s Office to attend the press conference which was very informative given by US Attorney John Bales.

Having not been to Beaumont in years, it was very nice to see the progress that Beaumont in making.

But, let's give credit where credit is due.

Thanks to Henry, Jim, Steve and Harry at the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department for getting me out of town for a very enjoyable day.
