Vehicle Burglary Report Cards LIBERTY, November 23, 2010 - This holiday season, the Liberty Police Department (LPD) will be proactively helping car and truck owners to prevent burglaries and thefts from their vehicles. LPD has developed a Vehicle Burglary Report Card. While officers are on patrol, they will randomly inspect vehicles for potential problems. They will also be looking for vehicles that are following good crime prevention procedures. Once an officer inspects a given vehicle, they will place a small “report card” under the vehicle’s windshield wiper blade for the driver to view once they return to the vehicle. LPD has investigated thirty seven Burglary of Motor Vehicle cases since January of this year. There have also been numerous thefts regarding vehicles that don’t fall under the category of burglary, yet are still costly to vehicle owners, and can fill a large amount of a LPD investigator’s time. The prevention of vehicle burglaries and thefts helps both the citizens and the police. The Vehicle Burglary Report Cards are simple ways of letting motorists know what they can do to prevent becoming a victim. Each card will detail what the officer observed and the corrective measures needed. It will also have the contact number for LPD’s crime prevention officer and list the City’s website, where more information can be obtained. Be safe this holiday season. The Liberty Police Department hopes that all drivers and car owners will do what is needed to keep their vehicles secure. Together, we can prevent vehicle burglaries, and assure no driver becomes a victim of theft.
