Driver Crashes into Tree Line on SH 146

DAYTON, August 1, 2010 - Shortly after 5:00 PM the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department and Liberty County EMS responded to a one-vehicle accident on SH 146 about one mile south of FM 1413 in Dayton.

The only occupant of the blue Mercury sedan was the female driver.

At press time it was unclear what hospital the driver would be transported to or if the she would be transported at all.

According to Dayton Police Officer Crystal Thomas who investigated the accident the driver was traveling south on SH 146 and became distracted looking for personal items in the vehicle. Before she realized it she had left the roadway to the right and it was too late to correct the vehicle's direction of travel.

The vehicle crossed the ditch on the west side of the roadway and crashed into the tree line.

Firefighters were instrumental in getting the driver out of the vehicle and into a waiting ambulance.

The driver was identified as Elizabeth Reiner age 51 of Dayton.

According to Officer Thomas it was unclear whether or the not the vehicle was insured and citations in this accident are pending further investigation by the department.
