Red Light Camera Installation to Begin in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, April 7, 2010 - The construction and installation of red-light cameras set to begin in Cleveland, Tuesday, April 13, 2010.

In July of 2009, the Cleveland City Council voted unanimously to have the American Traffic Solutions (ATS) as the first-ever vendor for the city’s photo enforcement safety program. According to Chief of Police, Mark Bradshaw

ATS was chosen based on the company’s experience as well as its technological approach to providing the City of Cleveland with the enforcement tools that will modify driver behavior to reduce the running of red lights, help prevent crashes, and increase safety in our community.

The warning phase of the enforcement program is to commence May 6, 2010; no fines will be assessed at that time. The actual issuance of citations is to commence June 6, 2010 and will be $75.00 per violation. The cameras will be placed at the following locations:

• East Houston @ North Fenner Avenue
• South Washington Avenue @ Tucker Street (San Jacinto Ave.)
• South Washington Avenue @ Southline Street

“Police Officers can not be everywhere, Red-light cameras are an effective tool in helping local police to enforce traffic laws and improve public safety without any additional cost to taxpayers since the program is totally funded through red light violators.” said Bradshaw.

ATS serves more than 140 communities with red-light and speed camera programs across the U.S. and Canada. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, ATS serves Arlington, Balcones Heights, Burleson, Cedar Hill, Fort Worth, Hutto, and Irving. Elsewhere in the Texas, ATS serves the cities of Houston, Amarillo, Baytown, Beaumont, College Station, Conroe, Humble, Jersey Village, and Sugar Land. The company has two Texas regional offices; one in Missouri City (southwest of Houston) and the other in Arlington.
