Rebel Riders Drill Team Champions Of 2010 AQHA World Show

LIBERTY, November 22, 2010 - The Texas, Liberty County Rebel Riders, with the ‘Spirit of Texas’ forged in their souls, hitched up their horse trailers Thursday, November 18th and headed for the Oklahoma border to compete at the 2010 AQHA World Show in Oklahoma City. They were to have a ‘Red River Run-Off” on Friday the 19th, with the top Oklahoma drill team, the ‘Freedom Riders’.

The Rebel Riders, with true Texas passion and the confidence of a well-trained unit, took command of the internationally packed arena. In classy black and white costumes they transported the audience back in time to the nostalgic ‘big band era’ with their equestrian rendition of ‘New York, New York’. Horse enthusiasts from all over the world praised them for their technical maneuvers which they executed with military precision. When the dust finally settled and the votes were tallied the Rebel Riders emerged the victors of the friendly “Battle of the Border!” making them the Drill Team Champions of the 2010 AQHA World Show.

The Rebel Riders would like to thank the AQHA Committee for esteeming them worthy to compete in such an exclusive arena of champions. They consider it an honor not only to be invited, but to ride against the renowned Oklahoma “Freedom Riders.” The Freedom Riders showed great kindness and real southern hospitality to the Rebel Riders, hosting them for lunch and providing gifts for the team members. Their sportsmanship was greatly appreciated by the Rebel Riders making it a memorable trip for them.

They would also like to thank the many faithful supporters, who through the years have invested their hearts, their time, and their finances to promote youth equestrian sports. It is because of your commitment to the sport that their youth have been able to accomplish what others only dream about!

The team was especially honored that Dr. Dennis Sigler, Extension Horse Specialist from A&M and Ron Holcomb, Liberty County Extension Agent traveled to Oklahoma City to support the team.

The Rebel Riders ride under the direction of head drill master, Tommy Small and drill masters Tammie Turner and Rex Robertson. The AQHA World Champion riders are: Lauren Barham, Taylor Copenhaver, Jodee Crane, Melissa Crane, Katy Curry, Emalee Diehl, Hannah Duty, Harley Gray, Kacie Hughes, Kerry Jamison, Paula Miller, Chelsea Robertson, Amber Slater, Bobbie Turner, Jenna Turner, Kylie Turner, and alternate, Lauren Mohn.
