Officers Arrest Intoxicated Driver and Passenger

LIBERTY, July 19, 2010 - Around 3:00 AM on Sunday morning Officer Michael Prado of the City of Liberty Police Department clocked a Buick sedan traveling on Main Street at 70 MPH in a 30 MPH zone.

 

Officer Prado stopped the vehicle on Main Street in front of the Methodist Church.

Having suspicions that the driver may be intoxicated Office Prado called for the assistance of Trooper Schmidt of the Department of Public Safety to investigate.

Trooper Schmidt conducted a field sobriety test on the driver of the vehicle and determined that the man was intoxicated.

Officer Prado investigated the condition of the passenger in the vehicle and determined that he was intoxicated as well.

Officer Prado took the passenger into custody, charge with Public Intoxicated and transported him to the Liberty County.

Trooper Schmidt placed the driver of the vehicle into custody after giving him his Miranda warning in Spanish, charging him with DWI and took him to jail as well.

Neither of the men had a driver’s license or any other documents to substantiate their identity.

At the time of their arrest, there identities were unknown. Further investigation by Officers will determine their identities once they are at the jail.
