Fitzgerald Certified as a Write-In Candidate for County Judge LIBERTY, August 25, 2010 - Very odd things have happened in Liberty County today. In a Saturday news conference Liberty County Democratic Chairperson Nancy Archer announced that she had received a demand letter from Liberty County Judge Phil Fitzgerald challenging the residency of candidate Ken Morrison for Liberty County Judge and requesting that Morrison be removed from the November Ballot. During the news conference Archer told reports that Fitzgerald told her in a private conversation that Fitzgerald’s intentions were that he place on the ballot to replace Morrison. Archer denied Fitzgerald’s demands and announced that Ken Morrison is the Democratic Party’s candidate for Liberty County Judge and that Morrison, in Archer’s words, “…Will make us proud.” On August 24, 2010, Tuesday, Phil Fitzgerald filled out a Declaration of Write-In candidacy for the General Election to be held in November 2010 seeking the office of Liberty County Judge. The appropriate from was filed out and Fitzgerald signed the document in the presence of Notary Joan L. Belt in the County Attorney’s Office. The person who certifies the names of people who are filling to run as write-in candidates is none other that the County Judge. Today, in a letter filed at 11:50AM with the office of Liberty County Clerk Delia Sellers, County Judge Phil Fitzgerald certified himself for placement on the ballot in November as a write-in candidate. In that certification he stipulates that the way his name should appear on the ballot be simply, “Phil.” Fitzgerald is the only write-in candidate running in a local election on the November ballot.
