Highway 90 Closed Late Sunday Night DAYTON, April 12, 2010 – US 90 in the Trinity River Bottom between Liberty and Dayton was closed at the Dayton Hill to the Liberty City limits between 11:00 PM and Midnight on Sunday because several horses got out on the roadway and one was struck by a car near the Dayton Hill. According to Officer Eric Ibarra of the City of Dayton Police Department a silver Saturn Coupe was traveling east on US 90 and struck one of the horses. Liberty County EMS responded to the scene and treated the driver of the Saturn, Patty Rhodes age 43 of Liberty who suffered minor injuries in the accident mostly from flying shards of glass inside her vehicle.
Officer Ibarra told i-dineout.com that David Parker of Dayton was the owner of the horses that are normally kept in a field at the bottom of the Dayton Hill on the South side of the highway. After the collision, horses ran across both the east and westbound lanes of US 90 forcing the road closure until the horses could be rounded up and returned to pasture. The horses eventually ran east on US 90 almost to the Liberty City limits and Dayton Police assisted by Sheriff’s Department and DPS Units managed to drive the horses back to a gate in the fence near the bottom of the Dayton Hill. Luckily no one else was seriously injured in the incident that caused the late night traffic delay. Give us your Feedback about this story! |
