Driver Arrested After Major Accident on FM 1409

DAYTON, September 9, 2010 - The Westlake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a major accident on FM 1409 at CR 450, just south of Dead Man’s Curve, about 9:10 PM on Thursday night.

The accident closed FM 1409 in both directions for a considerable period as the injured were prepared for transport to the hospital and the roadway cleared of debris.

Trooper Nat Godfrey investigated the accident with the assistance of Corporal Rob Willoughby.

According to Trooper Godfrey a red, Chrysler Sebring was traveling south on FM 1409 and had stopped for oncoming traffic while attempting a left turn onto CR 450 when a Nissan Murano rear ended the Chrysler injuring the driver.

The driver of the Chrysler Sebring who was transported by Liberty County EMS to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital was identified as Meagan Rhodes age 18 of Dayton.

The driver of the Nissan Murano was Gladys Jones age 36 of Dayton.

According to Trooper Godfrey, the factors his investigation was focusing on were Failure to Control Speed and the use of Alcohol by the driver of the Nissan Murano.

Corporal Willoughby conducted a standard field sobriety test of the driver of the Nissan Murano, Gladys Jones age 36 of Dayton, and placed her under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.

She was transported to the Liberty County Jail.
