She was given a letter of recognition and a check by chapter President Linda Jamison at the Liberty High School Senior Awards Ceremony on May 25th. Mrs. Jamison gave a brief statement about the history and work of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and how the Franklin Hardin Chapter raised the funds for this scholarship as well as their out reach to area schools through the Texas History Essay contest, history based art and crafts contests and Texas History certificates of merit that are awarded to the highest grade point student in Texas History in all area schools each May. This chapter scholarship was offered to college-bound seniors in all county schools and was funded through the fund raising efforts of chapter members and promotion of a DRT Texas Flag pin across the state. The chapter scholarship committee reviewed numerous applications but found that Madison met all criteria with a high grade point average, exceptional list of extra-curricular activities, leadership abilities and public service in church and community along with a strong moral compass. Madison Moody is an exceptional, goal-oriented young woman and the Franklin Hardin Chapter is honored with her acceptance of this scholarship. |
