Liberty SO Deputy Killed in One Car Crash

HARDIN COUNTY, October 25, 2010 - News has just come in that Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Odell McDuffie, age 43, a veteran of at least 16 years, with the LCSO was killed in a blazing, one-car crash around 1:20 PM Monday afternoon in Hardin County.

The accident occurred on FM 770 about 2 or 3 miles north of Saratoga.

McDuffie was returning to Liberty County after he had transported a juvenile to Hardin County. He was assigned to the Civil Division and was a Metal Health Officer.

Little is known about the cause of the accident and a medical condition being one of the factors involved has not been ruled out by investigators.

McDuffie was driving a marked, Ford Crown Victoria patrol unit. Initial reports indicate that McDuffie's Patrol Vehicle left the roadway, crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

Fellow Officers told i-dineout.com that McDuffie leaves behind a wife and three children ages 16, 7 and 4 years old. Check back for updates.
