Matthew Forms in the Caribbean

CARIBBEAN, September 23, 2010 - Tropical Storm Matthew has formed in the Caribbean. At this point, system is forecast to track WNW into Belize, and then slow down and drift north into the Eastern Yucatan (see attached). Could be a major impact to that area in terms of very high rainfall. By next Thursday the latest forecast is for the center to be near the Yucatan Channel.

Beyond that early indications are that it could impact primarily the Eastern Gulf Coast/Florida areas in a little over a week. In this case our first real cold front of the season, which will move through Sunday night, is helping turn this north away from the Texas Coast so at this point it is not expected to have a major impact here. Of course this could change given how far out we are looking so stay tuned.
