Major Accident on SH 321, Dayton

DAYTON, December 27, 2010 - Only minutes before 6:00 PM on Monday night a major accident occurred on SH 321 in front of Jimmy’s Honky Tonk just north of the prison in Dayton.

According to the investigating DPS Trooper a Red Dodge Pickup struck a silver Ford Bronco in the rear sending the Bronco across the southbound lane of SH 321 and into the ditch.

One witness on the scene stated that the Bronco had pulled out of Jimmy’s Honky Tonk in front of the Dodge Pickup however according to the investigating DPS Trooper this was not confirmed and will require further investigation.

Alcohol was present in both of the vehicles and further investigation will determine if alcohol was a factor in this accident.

The Highway 321 and Dayton Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene to assist with traffic control, assist in the rescue of the accident victims, man a landing zone for Life Flight and clean up a gasoline spill from the Bronco.

The driver of the Dodge pickup who was transported by Liberty County EMS to Cleveland Regional Medical Center was Justin Garret age 23.

The driver of the Bronco was Kevin Maher age 27 of Dayton and his passenger was his wife Lisa Kinney also of Dayton. Maher was transported to Cleveland Regional Medical Center for treatment. Lisa Kinney suffered the most serious injuries and was transported by Life Flight to Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment.

At this early stage in the investigation, no citations have yet been issued. Further investigation will determine what if any citations will be necessary.
