McFaddin NWR and Non-profit Organization Host Annual Marsh Madness!

ANAHUAC, March 17, 2010 - The McFaddin & Texas Point Refuges Alliance and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service are hosting Marsh Madness! Saturday, March 27th, 2010 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge. The public is invited to attend the free series of presentations and programs, including:

Birds of Prey – Learn about and see live birds of prey, presented by Last Chance Forever, with shows at 11am and 1pm.
Fire in the Marsh -- Test your skills with a fire hose and learn what it takes to be a professional wildland firefighter!
Seining – No hooks needed! Learn to fish using a net!
Crabbing -- Know what’s on the end of your line? Spend some time improving your crabbing skills and knowledge.
Retrieving Demonstration – Watch some well-trained dogs in action and learn the basics of training, and working with retrievers.
Life in the Marsh – Fish, turtles, invertebrates and many other exciting critters you’ll find in the marshes of McFaddin NWR.
Paddling in the Marsh – Learn from the professionals of Coastal Paddler in Beaumont how to paddle a kayak and then test your skills! Be prepared to get wet!!
Duck Calling – Practice your calls and learn how to bring in the birds!
Alligators -- Let the experts from TPWD introduce you to these reptiles that have been around since the dinosaurs. See them close up in a large alligator tank!
Creative Craft Center -- Get creative by creating your own crafts that you can take home!

Marsh Madness! is being hosted by the McFaddin & Texas Point Refuge Alliance and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service with the help of Coastal Paddler, the Friends of Anahuac Refuge, Haydel’s Game Calls, Lamar University Texas Academy of Science, Last Chance Forever, North Shore Surf Club, PAPCO, Inc., Port Arthur Retriever Club, Sabine Pass ISD, U.S. Coast Guard and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
