Early Morning Accident on North Main Street LIBERTY, December 14, 2010 – A one-vehicle accident occurred on North Main Street just south of the Ridgewood Subdivision around 1:40 AM on Tuesday morning.
A northbound, green Ford Pickup, loaded with a Suzuki motorcycle took evasive action to avoid a deer in the roadway, left the roadway to the left, spilling the motorcycle, crashed into a gas meter, took out a mail box and came to rest on the west side of the street. The motorcycle was ejected from the pickup and both it and the truck suffered extensive damage.
Liberty Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene and closed North Main Street due to the danger of leaking natural gas from the broken meter.
With temperatures hovering at 32 degrees, the gas meter providing gas to a residence that neighbors describe as Ms. Ruby’s house was broken causing a gas leak. The truck broke the meter and the piping to the house. The local representative of Center Point arrived on the scene to stop the leaking gas. As a result the gas to Ms. Ruby’s house was cut off until she could get a plumber to fix the pipe on her side of the meter and was most likely without heat.
Officer Rolando Aguilar of the City of Liberty Police Department investigated the accident. According to reports the driver and only occupant of the pickup was Joseph Lemoine age 30 of Hardin who was in route home at the time of the accident. North Main was closed to traffic for more than an hour during the investigation of the accident and repair of the gas leak. According to Officer Aguilar the vehicles were insured and Lemoine received a citation for Failure to Control Speed. |
