County and Partners to hold Conservation Workshop for Landowners ANAHUAC, August 1, 2010 - Chambers County, the Texas Coastal Management Program, Texas Coastal Partners, and the soil and water conservation districts in Chambers, Liberty and Jefferson counties are together sponsoring a conservation workshop for landowners, to be held in Wallisville, on Friday, August 6. The multi-county workshop – “Maintaining Our Rural Heritage: Opportunities for Rural Land Preservation” - will provide private property landowners with invaluable information on available conservation and preservation management options and funding opportunities. “We want to offer these landowners a one-stop shop with information and resources they can use when considering conservation options,” said David Manthei, NRCS District Conservationist in Anahuac. Workshop topics include conservation in an age of ag land conversion, an overview of easements and land trusts, the top 10 issues every landowner needs to know, the Texas Prairie Wetlands program, and funding through the 2008 Farm Bill. The day’s event will wrap up with a panel by participating landowners. Speakers include experts from the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, Braun & Associates, Texas Land Trust Council, Texas General Land Office, and Ducks Unlimited. Representatives from government agencies and nonprofit organizations will have literature there and be available to answer questions on their particular programs. The workshop will be held at the Wallisville Community Center, 524 Number 9 Rd., Wallisville. It is free to the public. Lunch will be provided. For more workshop information, contact Amy Turner, 409-267-1144, or Linda Shead, 713-703-1123.
