Genealogist Trevia W. Beverly to Conduct Workshop March 20th

LIBERTY, March 15, 2010 - Noted professional genealogist, Trevia Wooster Beverly will be guest lecturer at the Liberty County Genealogical Society on Saturday, March 20th in the upstairs meeting room of the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center. Mrs. Beverly will conduct a two-session workshop for L.C.G.S. members and guests beginning at 8:30 a.m. with registration and ending at 12:00 noon. There will be two sessions: Meet Mr. Draper & the Rev. Shane: Two Frontier Collectors and Dead Men Tell No Tales……or do they? Mrs. Beverly will share lesser known and overlooked ways of finding records in genealogy through these two sessions.

Trevia Wooster Beverly is a member of the pioneer Wooster family of the Baytown area. Her interest in genealogy began with a ninth-grade English project that was parlayed into a career as a professional genealogist.

A member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, she also maintains active membership in a number of archival, cemetery, historical, genealogical, library, lineage, and preservation organizations. She is serving her 15th year on the Harris County Historical Commission and holds membership in the Country School Association of America, working with the Baytown Historical Preservation Association’s project of restoration and preservation of Harris County’s oldest known (1893), still existing one-room schoolhouse.

Mrs. Beverly has conducted seminars and workshops throughout Texas and teaches genealogy classes in Houston. She is listed in several biographical publications, including Who’s Who in Genealogy & Heraldry. Past president of the Texas State Genealogical Society (1984-1987), she co-founded the Houston Genealogical Institute (1979-1981) and served as host chairman for Clayton Library Friends for the 1994 National Genealogical Society Conference held in Houston. She has been a member of the Angelina College genealogy faculty since 1998, serving as assistant coordinator and program chairman for the past several years.

Published in The French Genealogist, the CLF Newsletter, and other periodicals, Mrs. Beverly has also compiled a series of Texas cemetery directories, and published Suffer the Children: A History of the Confederate Orphanage at Baylands, Texas.
