L.C.G.S. Enjoy Program On The Huguenots LIBERTY, January 28, 2010 - The Liberty County Genealogical Society met Tuesday, January 19th in the upstairs meeting room of the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center where approximately 40 members and guests enjoyed a program, “Who Were the Huguenots” presented by guest speaker, Eric Sandifer of Baytown. Mr. Sandifer presented his program in period dress and related the history of the Huguenots in Europe, their migration to America and famous people in Texas history that were descended from the Huguenots. After his presentation, Mr. Sandifer answered questions from the members concerning the Huguenots and their migration. Before the program, there was a short business meeting conducted by L.C.G.S. President, Linda Jamison where members discussed the new website and work which is being done by volunteers to abstract area cemeteries and old courthouse records to be posted for public use in genealogical research. Program chairman, Bonnie Steed announced a field trip to Terrell Library in Beaumont on February 16th. There will be a tour of the facility and also time for members to work on their genealogical research. An upcoming workshop which will be presented by Trevia Beverly, well-known lecturer and speaker on Saturday, March 20th at Sam Houston Regional Library was announced.
