Governor Bobby Jindal Agrees to Allow Concealed Handguns in Church

BATON ROUGE, July 9, 2010 – Louisiana Govenor Bobby Jindal agreed to allow concealed handguns in Louisiana’s Churches.

It has been prohibited to carry concealed handguns in Churches, Synagogues and Mosques in Louisiana until now. It is still prohibited in Texas.

The legislation calling for this change in Louisiana law was authored by Republican Henry Burns and signed into law on Tuesday.

Supporters of the measure claim carrying concealed weapons in churches deters criminal activity in church and allows ministers and pastors to incorporate handguns into security plans for their congregations.

However, one concealed handgun instructor in Texas put it this way, “If you feel like you need to carry a handgun in church, then maybe you’re going to the wrong church.”
