Major Accident in Hardin HARDIN, June 17, 2010 - Only minutes before 4:00 PM on Thursday a major accident occurred on SH 146 at CR 2002E about two miles south of Hardin.
According to a witness who was traveling south on SH 146, a tan Lexus slowly drifted into and crossed the northbound lane of traffic. The vehicle went into the ditch on the east side of the roadway and collided with a culvert at CR 2002E. The vehicle then flipped end over end and came to rest in the tree line south of CR 2002E.
Witnesses stated that the elderly female driver was conscious after the accident but needed medical attention. Luckily according to witnesses the driver was wearing a seat belt and numerous air bags deployed in the vehicle.
The Hardin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with the rescue of the driver, manage traffic control and man a temporary landing zone for Life Fight just north of the accident scene.
Life Flight flew the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, identified as Mary Jenkins age 79 of Hankamer to Houston’s Hermann Hospital for treatment. Witnesses who assisted the driver prior to the arrival of Liberty County EMS stated that the driver said she had fallen asleep at the wheel. SH 146 was closed to traffic while Life Flight landed on SH 146 and northbound traffic quickly backed up to FM 2830 south of the accident location. Give us your Feedback about this story!
