Two Hispanics Arrested After Traffic Stop

LIBERTY, July 8, 2010 - Around 1:00 AM on Thursday Officer Frank Longoria with the City of Liberty Police Department stopped a Chevy pickup in the River Bottom for loud music.

According to Officer Longoria the pickup was equipped with interior speakers as well as a speaker under the bed of the truck mounted where the spare tire is usually located. This type of speaker and loud music is against City Ordinance.

After making the traffic stop, the story of the driver and passenger did not coincide as to where they were going.

One said they were going to Houston to stay for 4 or 5 days, yet they had no luggage. According to Longoria this is indicative of drug activity.

Officer Longoria requested and received consent to search the vehicle where upon he found a stolen 40-caliber Sigma Semi-Automatic handgun in the center of the front seat.

According to Officer Longoria the handgun had been reported stolen out of Galveston County.

Neither occupant of the vehicle had a driver’s license or ID card. Both had identification cards from Mexico indicating they were citizens of Mexico.

According to Public Records the pickup is registered to Ramon Rostro of Beaumont, TX. Rostro has five other vehicles registered to him at the same address.

According to records both had recent encounters with ICE and Florida Police for traffic offenses.

The driver of the pickup was Ignacio Garcia Gonzales age 20 of Mexico and the passenger was Romero Contrero Jasso age 21 also of Mexico.

Both were placed under arrest for Possession of a Stolen Firearm and transported to the Liberty County Jail. They will be detained there and ICE will be contacted.
