Hardin VFD Takes Delivery on New Tanker Truck

HARDIN, September 14, 2010 - Tuesday afternoon the Hardin Volunteer Fire Department invited members of the press to view and inspect their recently acquired Tanker Truck that was the result of a Texas Forest Service Grant as well as the many fundraising activities of the department.

The Hardin VFD applied for the Texas Forest Service Grant approximately six years ago and grant funds became available only this year. The department received $155,000 dollars toward the purchase of the Tanker Truck from the Texas Forest Service and the Hardin VFD funded the remainder of the $228,000 cost.

The 2011 Kenworth Truck has a five-man cab and can discharge water into a dump tank from both sides and the rear. The department is currently purchasing additional equipment so that the Tanker can be put into service. It is expected to be ready to go in about two weeks.

The Tanker has a 3,000-gallon tank and will be the unit when other departments call for mutual aid assistance to fight fires.
